as an area of nonfunctioning abnormal lung tissue which receives its blood supply from a systemic artery and characteristically has no connection with the tracheobronchial tree.2 About 70 percent of all the reported cases are of the intralobar variety.' The abnormal lung tissue in the intralobar type is located within the visceral pleura of a pulmonary lobe, whereas the extralobar form is like an accessory lobe because it has its own visceral pleura. The venous drainage of the extralobar type is usually into the systemic venous system, whereas the intralobar type drains into the pulmonary venous system.' All reported intralobar sequestrations are located above the diaphragm and are almost always in the lower lung

Bronchopulmonary sequestration is a rare congenital lung malformation characterized by an abnormal segment of bronchopulmonary tissue supplied by an anomalous systemic artery. The diagnosis may be easily missed in adults, as many of the symptoms overlap with other pulmonary processes. Surgical resection provides definitive management and is usually reserved for patients with symptoms. This arti...

Bronchopulmonary sequestration is a relatively rare medical condition wherein a mass of nonfunctioning primitive lung tissue does not communicate with the tracheobronchial tree and receives its blood supply from an anomalous systemic artery.1-6 It usually manifests at younger ages and is rare in adults. Its clinical presentation varies in adulthood.1-3 We report the case of a young male adult w...

Surgical resection in mmspected intralobar sequestration can result in fatal hemorrhagic complications. The roentgen criteria for establishing tbis diagnosis are: 1) chronic and recurrent pulmonary Wtrate; 2) most often located in b a s k segments of the lower lobes; 3) multiple cystic areas; 4) failure of contrast media to enter the cystic area during broncbography. We studied two cases of int...
